Dalton, Green use quick-hitters to carve Jets’ defense
But the Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver might have reduced the Jets’ cornerback to mortal status.

Was it that one where he flat out burned Darelle Revis for a 66 yard Touchdown or that one at the end of the game to put Bengals in Field Goal range and win the game for his team. He connected all 10 times. The one incompletion was a trap that Green almost sold as a catch before it was overturned on review. “He’s everything as advertised. We know we have to do better”.
Revis was limited in training camp and might not be 100 percent healthy.
A season ago, the Jets had the fourth-best defense in yards allowed, and ninth-best in average points per game.
I’m not going to make any strong pronouncements about Revis, not based on one game against one of the NFL’s best receivers.
And that won’t be easy, considering that the Bills are the only one of the Jets’ first six opponents that didn’t make the playoffs past year.
“The whole week everybody was saying A.J. vs. Darrelle”, Green said. Following a NY punt, Dalton capitalized on a secondary miscommunication and hit Green one-on-one against Revis 54 yards to put his team up three. Last Sunday against Cincinnati, the first game of what some believed would be a comeback season, Revis just looked plain lousy. Revis went stride-for-stride with Green, who made a diving catch. Uh, no. Sometimes, the schedule is everything, and opening the season against the Browns and Bears in back-to-back weeks is all a team needs to look confident, even when it’s not that good.
“I’m just happy”, he said.
The scoring in the game started with NY driving 78 yards on 10 plays on their first possession, capping it off by a three-yard pass from Fitzpatrick to Quincy Enunwa for a touchdown. On top of that, the Panthers lost a winnable game in Denver, and they’ll be home. “I feel like I let the team down”.
The Good: The Jets possess one of, if not the most disruptive defensive line in football, and yesterday their dominance was on full display.
Including the way that was once inconceivable. The momentum of the game turned though, when the Jets drove the field and then had the 22 yard field goal attempt blocked.
Dalton was ideal on a pair of field goal drives that ended each half. “It’s just getting back to the X’s and O’s of things and just correcting certain things, and that’s just about it”. “I’ve moved on, they’ve moved on”. We went over it in the coaching staff meeting.
But Ryan Fitzpatrick’s interception in the final minute was not the decisive play.
With 18 seconds left in the second quarter and the Bengals at the Jets’ 17-yard-line with no timeouts remaining, Andy Dalton threw over the middle to Tyler Boyd, who was tackled at the Jets’ 3. Green finished with 12 catches for 180 yards and a touchdown. Fitzpatrick also had a shotgun snap bounce off his leg and had to bat down a pass that was tipped back to him by a Bengals defensive lineman. “That was the poorest execution I’ve ever seen on our side in the red zone since I’ve been here”. “We just didn’t get it done”.

The New York Jets and Buffalo Bills square off early Thursday night at New Era Field on CBS. We fell short, if you want to call it that, [Sunday]. Had we won, it would have been just as hard. “This is a big game for us, for the obvious reasons”. We have to regroup. We’ve got to take advantage of this opportunity.
