Daly puts 3 balls and 1 club into Lake Michigan

He was having a fine round Friday, too, even through six holes. Rory McIlroy hit a 3-iron into the lake to the left of the eighth hole at Trump National Doral in March, then heaved his club into the water. His score put him seven strokes off the lead, but still well within range to consider himself in contention heading into the weekend.

St. Andrews champion Zach Johnson, the third of that illustrious grouping, could be out of contention to add to his career haul of two majors. The orphaned golf club that Daly callously flung into the lake found a new owner who will hopefully treat it better than Daly did – and vice-versa for that matter.

The offending club was then retrieved by a young boy on the back of a small boat, who held it aloft to cheers from the gallery.

Daly’s day continued downhill from there.

An untidy three-putt sent Daly into double figures for the hole, and you can see exactly what the 49-year-old thought of his display in the video above.

“Have a smoke, Johnny!” yelled one fan, as a large crowd of followers supported Daly as usual here in Wisconsin.

Course officials expect everything to be ready by the time play is scheduled to resume at 7 a.m. today. He just swung away, eager to be done.

As more people called out to Daly as he walked out of the media area, she said, “We’re late for a steak dinner”.

“Makes me feel like I also deserve to be among them”, Coetzee said.

Either way, can’t say I blame Daly for getting angry. “I’ve always said throwing a club shows you care”.

John Daly had a rough time on the seventh hole at the PGA Championship on Friday. After three of his tee shots ended up in the water he heaved his club into the lake too
