Dana White: Holly Holm’s Next Fight Won’t Be Rematch With Ronda Rousey

Holm surprised UFC fans when she defeated long-time champion Rousey last November 14, 2015 after a series of well-timed strikes and a head kick to finish it off.

As reported by the Los Angeles Times, speaking about Holm’s next match, White said, “I honestly don’t know what we’re going to do”. He announced Wednesday on Fox Sports 1’s “UFC Tonight” that Holm will fight someone else before she fights Rousey again. White has announced no opponent or date, but one must imagine that former Strikeforce champion and current UFC contender Miesha Tate would be the pick for Holm’s first title defense.

Meanwhile, White confirmed that Rousey will be back in action this year, but stopped short of narrowing down when the 28-year-old could possibly make her comeback, despite reports of a comeback in July.

MMA fighter Ronda Rousey, seen here during the premiere for “The Expendables 3” in Hollywood in 2014, is set to host “Saturday Night Live” on January 23, 2016.

If Holm wins her interim fight, her champion status is further legitimized and everybody wins financially regardless of who wins the rematch.

White offered up no details about this theoretical fight.

Now, it appears she will get her wish.

In her recent interview with SB Nation’s MMA Mania, Holm said she doesn’t want to wait for the rematch if it means not fighting for a few months. The video from TMZ below shows Rousey hiding behind her pillow while being questioned by the paparazzi.

“If I fight sooner rather than later it won’t be a rematch, but it’s still possible to get a rematch”.
