Dana White: ‘Stitch’ Duran Was Never My Friend

UFC President Dana White made it clear he won’t accept Jacob “Stitch” Duran’s offer to mend fences and return to UFC cut man duties. And “Stitch” Duran, another thing about “Stitch” Duran saying I should have called him. The UFC’s new Reebok deal prohibits fighters from displaying the logo of any other sponsors – and that extends to crew members like Duran too.

“Stitch” Duran needs to learn what the meaning of the word friend is”, White said. “We were work associates”, White told FOX Sports. We came up together from the boxing world, and when we hired cutmen, he’s one of the guys I brought in here. And I will fight to the end, to unmask these promoters, who are deceiving the public, cheating, and taking the dignity and the honor from our sport!

“I was shopping at Costco when I got a text from someone at the UFC asking if I could talk”, Duran, who has been working for the UFC since 2001, told Sherdog.com last night. Duran gave an interview with Bloody Elbow on Monday in which he discussed the struggle he now faces.

Many high-profile UFC stars, including middleweight champion Chris Weidman, have already taken to Twitter to express their support for Duran.

I really love working the MMA circuit.

On Tuesday, Duran was fired from the UFC. “We have a department that deals with them. Right? If we were such good friends and all that”.

Perhaps that’s where some of the animosity between White and ‘Stitch, ‘ who worked for the UFC for 14 years, comes from, but overall, the whole scene has been deemed quite a P.R. mistake by most.

Highly passionate MMA Journalist, and I’ve followed the sport ever since my favorite fighter, Vitor Belfort won the heavyweight tournament at UFC 12. “First of all, you do realize we have 10 cutmen that work for the UFC?”
