Daniel Cormier And Alexander Gustafsson Have Close Championship Fight, Jon

I worry about Alexander Gustafsson, defending my championship and then it’s on to the next one.

“I did what I was supposed to do”, said Cormier, who has openly stated that Jones deserves a title rematch once he’s reinstated. But that’s not it.

However, it is still interesting given the fact that Jones has now pleaded guilty to charges he faced and has been sentenced to probation.

Which means his shadow looms large over UFC 192. We all know the situation he’s in – Joe B can beat pretty much any 125er in the world except the champ. Not only was he involved in the April accident, but in January he also tested positive for cocaine metabolites and spent one day in rehab. I truly hope that Gustafsson wins the fight because I believe that it will be better for the sport of UFC as a whole.

Cormier is one of the brightest fighters in the UFC, but now that he has the championship that he chased so hard for so long, he’s not so sure why he gave so much of himself to the effort. He hinted a return to the octagon could take place in the near future.

“People questioning me only makes me more motivated”, Cormier said. While champion Daniel Cormier referred to Bader as the easiest fight of all the contenders, Evans says that was for entertainment purposes.

After Gustafsson suffered an injury in training, Cormier, riding a fifteen fight win streak, steps in to face Jones for the title. Cormier is now the champion after winning the vacant belt from Anthony “Rumble Johnson” in May.

Cormier (17-1 MMA, 6-1 UFC) narrowly escaped the main-event bout with a split-decision victoryover Gustafsson (16-4 MMA, 8-4 UFC) in a “Fight of the Year” candidate. “I just wanted to prove I wasn’t one dimensional and I can stand with the best strikers in the world”. If you ask me, is there anyone I wish I fought? It was a tightly contested match which was won by Jones in a controversial unanimous decision.

So even though Cormier understands that to be fully accepted as the light-heavyweight king he must slay Jones, he was not ready to share the bright lights just yet. “DC” has a tall task ahead of him – literally – in the form of Gustafsson, who is a 6-foot-5 striking specialist. He punched his way to the inside on his taller opponent and tried to land shots along the fence. Cormier is short for the division at 5-foot-11 and has competed most of his career at Heavyweight, Gustafsson is 6-foot-5 and lanky as they come.

Heartbreak again for Alex Gustafsson in another thrilling title fight. You couldn’t have any more of a contrast in terms of styles, as this fight.

This is a very tough fight to predict. Derrick Lewis has massive power in his hands, but is lacking on the takedown defense which you saw against Jack May. He opened a cut over Benavidez’ left eye in the first round, but it never appeared to bother the Sacramento-based fighter. Helwani answers that along with previewing UFC 192 and sharing his favorite spots here in Albany.

“I think I miss it, I don’t know”, Jones said in the video, which was quickly deleted. Fans did not appreciate the fight one bit and booed during the entire fight. I had to go rebuild.

Disappointed he didn’t a title shot, Bader chose to look at the positives. Cormier just won the title from Anthony Johnson in the Spring, following Jon Jones being stripped of his title after hitting a pregnant woman’s vehicle with his own, and fleeing the scene. “By leveraging key broadcast partnerships and exciting live events that have sold out a few of the biggest arenas in Europe, UFC is poised to expand its global reach for years to come”.
