Daniel Handler (author Lemony Snicket) and Illustrator Lisa Brown Donate $1
Handler’s donation comes on the heels of the Republican push to cease federal funding for Planned Parenthood – an attempt to promote the pro-life cause.

The president of the organization, Cecile Richards, defended the health-care provider at a hearing with House Republicans this week, and said the nonprofit has fallen victim of a “smear campaign” due to anti-abortionists secretly taping PP officials talking about harvesting foetal tissue for scientific research – a practice Richards says is totally legal.
Beloved children’s book author Lemony Snicket announced his support for Planned Parenthood with a $1 million donation.
Planned Parenthood has been receiving heavy backlash from anti-abortion activists after videos they claimed were manipulated were released, reportedly showing the organization illegally selling fetal tissues. It says the not-for-profit tissue donation programs support lifesaving scientific research.
In addition to A Series of Unfortunate Events, Handler is the author of The Dark and We Are Pirates.
Handler has commented on the organization before, in a 2007 essay titled “Adjusted Income” for The New York Times, in which he wrote, “If your salary equaled the amount of money my wife and I gave Planned Parenthood one year, you’d be in the richest 1 per cent in the world”.

“This year, Planned Parenthood has gone through a series of unfortunate events, and it felt right to make our support more public and more dramatic”, Brown added. Several Facebook users showed their support by turning profile pictures pink on Tuesday declaring it #PinkOut day.
