Jurgen Klopp has revealed that Liverpool’s hectic fixture list has prevented him from revelling in the high points of his Anfield reign.
The Reds replaced Brendan Rodgers with the former Borussia Dortmund boss back in October and have claimed impressive away victories over Chelsea and Manchester City during his first two months at the helm.
“I think Liverpool have a great chance”, he told Damian O’Meara on 2fm’s Game On. But performances have improved of late playing in a false 9 role, where he scored his first Liverpool goal against Manchester City last weekend.
The Dutchman took charge of the club before the 2014-15 season and saw a host of players, including Luke Shaw, Dejan Lovren, Callum Chambers, and Adam Lallana (Liverpool), move on even before the club had played a competitive game under him.
Liverpool’s Divock Origi, left, celebrates scoring against Southampton during the quarterfinal English League Cup soccer match at St Mary’s, Southampton, England, Wednesday Dec. 2, 2015. Liverpool in turn has four wins and one loss in their last five battles. Maybe he had some difficulties in the beginning and of course Jose was in front and Virgil (van Dijk) in front in both positions Steven can play.
Jurgen Klopp’s open approach that has unified and reenergised the squad at his disposal has played a key part in Liverpool’s instant progress under the German manager.
A title challenge would be largely dependent on Sturridge staying fit and, should he do so, then the quality of his movement and finishing on Wednesday highlighted how he boasts the pedigree to score 15 goals-plus between now and May.
Klopp is quick to say it certainly won’t be easy. “Good game, bad start, but we strike back”.
After Origi had put Liverpool 3-1 up by applying a glancing touch to Alberto Moreno’s low drive on the brink of half-time, Southampton coach Ronald Koeman switched to a three-man defence.

“When players have been out for a long spell you wonder how they’re going to come back, but this is what he is all about”. “They’re certainties for the Champions League spot and I think they might win the league”.
