Daniel Sturridge reveals his frustration at Jurgen Klopp’s tactics

Speaking to BBC Radio 5, former Arsenal striker John Hartson has suggested that Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp made an error in allowing Jon Flanagan to leave this summer.

However, the Reds boss says none of his forwards have a “fixed position” and that role is designed for Sturridge to come inside to wreak havoc rather than operating as a winger. “I’m a centre-forward”, Sturridge told The Guardian. We are just trying to get used to the Championship for the first time, so to play a team who I think can go close to challenging for the Premier League title, certainly the top four, was too much for us.

“Of course it is more hard for me to play wide”, he said.

Asked whether he was happy playing out wide, Sturridge replied: “Well, I have to do a job for the team”.

“I am happy that I don’t talk in situations like this about things like this”, was the predictably direct, yet still vague, answer from the German manager. That’s saying I have got to do a job for the team.

“You can’t play the same as you do as a centre-forward if you play wide”. It’s just a different way.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp sent the defender home whilst on tour in the U.S. during the preseason because of disciplinary issues.

On Sunday, multiple reports claimed that Sunderland had rejected the opportunity to sign ‘ wonderful’ Liverpool defender Mamadou Sakho, but new reports this week suggest that Stoke City are the latest Premier League club to register an interest.

Juergen Klopp has dismissed suggestions that Daniel Sturridge is frustrated with the role he’s being asked to play at Liverpool and believes the forward is intelligent enough to be a key figure in his flexible tactical approach.

“We don’t have 60-something games and to have a good atmosphere all players need to see their perspective and that is what we are working for”.
