Daniel Vettori knew about Chris Cairns fixing rumours for two years before

In a different interview, Mr White said he was told that the ICC was comfortable with how McCullum reported the approach and he assumed the New Zealand players would not face any sanctions.

“I didn’t receive the diamond”, Vettori added.

He will appear before the Southwark Crown Court by videolink around 9.30pm (NZT).

Mr McCullum claimed the meeting took place in Cairns’s hotel room.

This was a trade for the “scalp” of Cairns, said Mr Pownall. However, both the accused have denied the charges.

Vettori introduced McCullum to Mr Rhodes and also told the investigator about a promotional tour following the Champions Trophy tournament in 2006.

Mr Pownall suggested Mr White colluded with the ICC in such a way that McCullum and Vettori, star New Zealand players, would not be banned for failing to report the alleged approach from Cairns. “I was confused because of the 2008 tour to Bangladesh in October, and then the 2010 tour to Bangladesh in October”.

McCullum also told fellow players Daniel Vettori, the New Zealand captain at the time, and his close friend Kyle Mills.

Ponting said that when McCullum told him it was a “business” matter, he “didn’t ask any more questions”. It undermined all the hard work that was going on by the team.

“I ended up making two double centuries in that series and the best one was the one at the ‘G”. “He (McCullum) and Cairns had met and asked Brendon if he could be involved in spot-fixing and that he himself was involved in it”.

The New Zealand Herald broke the story about the investigation, without naming the trio, on December 5, 2013 which triggered global media interest.

In her evidence, Riley detailed the first occasion Vincent admitted to her that he had been involved in match fixing during the now-defunct Indian Cricket League. We had no jurisdiction, ” Mr Sawani told the court.

However, he told the court he was aware of rumours circulating and when asked by the defence whether there was anything beyond rumour he answered “yes”. But he confirmed he never confronted Tuffey about the rumours.

When asked by Pownall whether his memory was correct, Vettori stated he was sure. “I made it very clear I was unable to comment”, said Mr White.

Giving evidence from Australia via video link to London’s Southwark Crown Court, Ponting said the pair was having a drink when McCullum had about a five-minute conversation on the telephone. He had not kept notes.

“The conversation was not of great significance”.

“It’s quite remarkable, but it makes it more special when you hear the stories of others and you know you’re a part of that group”. Nor has he been charged with an offence.

Tuffey on the other hand was playing in Australia, so action could be taken against him.

Players caught up in corruption attempts suffered, he told the jury.

TWO more former Black Caps at Chris Cairns’s perjury trial in London have been grilled about their decisions not to come forward with reports of match fixing.

Fixing involves altering the course of a match, usually by under performing.

Vincent has told the court Cairns introduced him to fixing, when he was his captain at the Chandigarh Lions in the 2008 Indian Cricket League. As opening bat, he was to score 10 to 15 runs off 20 balls, then get out.
