Since joining Toro Rosso, Kvyat has scored just two points, with new teammate Carlos Sainz Jr. scoring 26 in the same period.

Asked if he felt he now had the mental strength to deal with his current form, he said: “Well it’s not like I’m having the most pleasant time in the world, for sure it’s not easy but it’s not an excuse”.

“These things, in the end, make you stronger again, but, of course, the whole situation made me reflect a bit on things, and it’s not easy”.

I don’t know what I need, I don’t know.

Daniil Kvyat has admitted he doesn’t remember the last time he had a “good feeling with a car” as his dismal 2016 Formula 1 season hit another dip during qualifying for the German Grand Prix.

“I understand he got impeded so I apologise but thank god it didn’t affect his qualifying much”.

“It’s the first track where we clearly see the lack of development on the engine side is hampering us”.

“Considering all the circumstances, it was a good day”. Toro Rosso head home to Italy for the summer break with just a three point lead over McLaren after failing to score points in Germany.

Speaking before the decision, Sainz said: “I finished my qualifying lap and was doing my switches for the in lap. Everyone has hard times, if you are good enough you come out, if you are not good enough you just die”. I am trying every weekend so much but nothing is working so far, so it needs to be more than that. If I say the truth, we were hoping for a better result today – in the end, we didn’t score any points while our direct competitors did. Hungary wasn’t great, so I’ll try to work on having a better Hockenheim and that’s all I’m really focused on at the moment. I don’t need anyone to be sorry for me, but everyone has these points in their life.
