Danny Boyle Hopes to Start Filming Trainspotting 2 in Summer 2016
“They only get this little window off, so you either wait for the contract to run down, which could be as late as three years, or you try and do it in this window”, the film-maker explained.

The film could even be released as early as 2016 should everything go smoothly and all the actors’ schedules align. Scheduling has been an issue for this follow-up in the past, since Jonny Lee Miller stars in the CBS drama Elementary and Robert Carlyle stars on ABC’s fantasy adventure series Once Upon a Time.
While Trainspotting 2 is something that Boyle has wanted to do for some time, it isnt a film he just wants to churn out for the sake of making it. He wants to make sure that when they do this, theyre going to do it right and do the original justice.
Scottish author Irvine Welsh, who penned the acclaimed 1993 novel on which “Trainspotting” was based, also wrote a 2002 follow-up called, “Porno“.
Boyle also revealed he is hoping to team up with Channel 4’s production arm Film4 again on the sequel and has a “big business meeting” lined up with them in the coming weeks.
“It’s May and June next year we shoot and we’ve got a terrific script”, he told us. “That’s as much as you can get without being answerable to anybody”.
“The actors were understandably anxious about its reputation and not wanting to let people down or to just be cashing in”.
The problem with many sequels is that they aren’t as strong as the original, however Danny has said that John Hodge (who won an award for his work on Trainspotting) has written the script, which will be “put under a very fierce spotlight by everyone”.

Ever since we heard that the incredibly talented director Danny Boyle would be returning to direct a sequel to Trainspotting, our hearts have been pumping faster than Renton after sprinting through the streets of Edinburgh. “Although we could have raised a lot more money for this, we didn’t so we’re trying to keep some sense like we kept the original”.
