Kisner shot a 6-under 64 in the final round to earn his spot in the playoff, but ran into trouble on the first playoff hole when he missed the green off the tee and chunked two chips from a poor lie.
In its six-year history, starting Sunday with the lead has been the kiss of death at the Greenbrier. His game couldn’t be in a better state, as he looks to track down a second John Deere Classic championship en route to the Open Championship. “I went for it and obviously didn’t touch the ball, twice”.
Russell Henley drained a birdie on the 18th hole to become the first guy to reach 12-under and enter the clubhouse with the lead. I hit it great, I had it shaped both ways, right-to-left, left-to-right.
Streb update: walking off 9th green, tossed the putter back toward caddie/bag and it broke.
Danny Lee fended off David Hearn for the title of edition No. 6 of the Classic with a par putt on No. 17.
New Zealand have three representatives – Steven Alker, Danny Lee and Tim Wilkinson – with full status on the PGA Tour this year but before today none had registered a victory.
“Took the 56-degree because we thought it had the straightest edge, and it worked out pretty good”, he said. The others were at the RBC Heritage and the Players Championship.
Lee finished with a final round three under 67 to finish at 13 under. Three spots will be up for grabs at the European Tour’s Scottish Open for golfers in the top 10 and ties.
