Danny Willett shoots 8-under 62 to lead European Masters before thunderstorm
Crans Montana (Switzerland), July 24 (IANS) Indian golfers Anirban Lahiri and Rashid Khan carded identical three-under 67s to share the 21st position after the first round of the 2.7 million euros European Masters at the Crans-sur-Sierre Golf Club here.

Dredge, won the event in 2006 and is just one back from Danny Willett who continued where he left off at the Open Championship with a superb start at the Omega European Masters in Switzerland.
The 27-year-old opened with three birdies and reached the turn in 30 before continuing to make hay down the back nine, despite a bogey on the 12th, to clinch a slender advantage over the South Korean pair of Yang Yong-eun and Baek Seuk-hyun. Fellow American Patrick Reed was tied for 25th at 4 under after a 69.
Lightning forced play to be abandoned for the day with 36 players having to return early on Saturday to complete their rounds.
(This story has been corrected to show that the British Open ended Monday, not last week.).
“You’ve got to take the golf course on because probably somewhere near 20-under par is going to be winning”.
“I didn’t get off to the best of starts, with a bogey at the first – at that point 74 was looking much more likely than 64″, said Fitzpatrick.
He picked up further shots at the 11th and 13th, in between his first bogey of the day at 12, and, when he birdied the par five 15th, he was at the top of the leaderboard.
“The putter was pretty hot, so if I can keep the ball in play it will be good”.
Danny Willett (via European Tour): “I hit it well on the range this morning, got into a nice rhythm early doors and carried it through the whole round”.

Jacquelin matched Fitzpatrick’s eight birdies but a triple bogey seven on the fourth, along with two other dropped shots, tempered his challenge and he signed for a 68.
