Dansby Swanson’s first Major League Baseball home run stays inside the park

The numbers are such an anomaly that Cubs broadcaster Len Kasper had just gotten done listing them to fans when Rizzo cranked a 97 MPH Peralta fastball to the opposite field for a solo home run in the first inning at Miller Park. It was the 2015 first-round pick’s first career home run of any kind and it gave Atlanta a 3-0 lead.

The Washington Nationals look to create some separation in the NL East as they host the Atlanta Braves in DC on Tuesday night. The ball went over the head of Washington rookie outfielder Trea Turner and caromed off the center-field wall. By the time Bryce Harper picked up the ball and threw it in, Swanson had slid in easily for the inside-the-parker. Swanson’s homer lifted his batting average to.250 and gave him his fifth RBI in 16 games since being called up on August 17.

Turner would get his revenge later in the game with a two-run single to expand the Nationals lead to 9-6 in the eighth inning.

Taylor scored the go-ahead run on an error in the last of the eighth and the Washington Nationals broke a tie with three runs that inning to beat the Atlanta Braves 9-7 on Tuesday.

Weber (1-1) allowed five runs in three innings, with all of the damage coming in his final inning.

Braves: Interim manager Brian Snitker said he hopes RHP Matt Wisler (sore side) can return to the rotation next week. The Vanderbilt product was also the first Atlanta player to hit an inside-the-park homer since Wes Helms pulled it off in 2001.

Rizzo finished 2-for-4 with the two homers and three RBI in the Cubs’ 12-5 loss to the Brewers.

“It was one of those things where I thought it was going to be my first triple”, Swanson said.

Strasburg gave up one run and two hits in 2 1/3 innings with four strikeouts and no walks, throwing 42 pitches. Foltynewicz, who is 4-0 in his past six starts, gave up four runs in 5 2/3 innings to defeat the Nationals on August 12 in Washington. Atlanta CF Ender Inciarte had a single in the first to extend his hitting streak to 17 games, the longest active streak in the majors. He entered the night hitting.236 with four RBIs in 55 at-bats.

Foltynewicz earned a victory in his only previous start this year against Washington, allowing four runs in 5 2/3 innings on August 12. Those customers were on Baker’s mind a few minutes later when he filled out the Nationals’ lineup card for the matinee without five of the team’s regular starters. He has been on the disabled list since August 22, retroactive to August 21, with right elbow soreness and could pitch Wednesday, according to manager Dusty Baker …
