Dantonio says O’Connor is Michigan State’s No. 1 QB
Dantonio announced that senior Tyler O’Connor would start at quarterback in the season opener against Furman. “Possibly, but he’s our No. 1 guy”.

“It’s finally my turn and I’m very excited about it”, O’Connor told the media on Monday.
Without question, the biggest off-season storyline surrounding the Michigan State Spartans as they head into 2016 looking to defend their 2015 Big Ten crown was who would be the starting quarterback, replacing the all-time winningest and most prolific quarterback in school history in Connor Cook.
Michigan State is No. 12 in the preseason Associated Press rankings.
Terry told reporters in East Lansing, Michigan, last week that no matter how the quarterback competition played out he would remain at Michigan State.
O’Connor has attempted only 54 passes as a Spartan. He helped Michigan State to an upset win at Ohio State past year while Cook was out injured. “But it remains to be seen a little bit”.
O’Connor has long awaited his chance to be the starter for MSU football.
Coach Dantonio also offered updates on other aspects of the Michigan State depth chart. He completed six of 12 passes for 70 yards and ran for a short touchdown but also put the ball on the ground twice.
