Darden: I Was ‘More Than Friends’ With Marcia Clark

For over 20 years, we’ve all been trying to figure out the truth behind prosecutor Marcia Clark and Christopher Darden’s relationship.

Somehow, Entertainment Tonight did what Ellen DeGeneres could not and got an answer out of Darden about whether or not he and Clark were anything other than two capable lawyers working under extreme pressure. It’s an interesting take on the term, especially when you figure that Marcia did note in her book, Without a Doubt, that “Chris Darden and I were closer than lovers”.

“We were inseparable back then”, said Darden, now 60.

The pair was front-and-center on Emmys darling The People v. O.J. Simpson earlier this year, but neither real-life party has confirmed a possible connection outside of the courtroom (despite much speculation), preferring to leave it at least a little ambiguous.

Darden added that he would wait to address those rumors when “Marcia’s sitting next to me to talk about it in greater detail”.

Darden said he hasn’t spoken to Clark in years, but was open to the possibility of chatting again. He continued, “In lawyer land, a half truth is a truth”. But when pressed, he admits, “Yes, we were more than friends”. “I’m not a kisser. Kissing is intimate. Kissing is more intimate than sex”, he explained, later describing he and Clark’s pairing as “fire”.

Asked to encapsulate their relationship in a word, he chose “fire”, but insisted fire wasn’t “romantic”.

When asked whether he would ever give the full truth about their relationship, Darden replied, “I think I have told the truth”.

“I think if I called her tomorrow we’d probably laugh our butts off”, he said.
