Darkness and despair, and a Donald Trump presidency
Donald Trump hopes to get the Republican Convention back on track after a former rival stole the show.

“I am certain it is a decision he truly regrets”.
“For good or bad, Trump has tapped into a nerve that is very real”, says Betsy DeVos, a major GOP donor and former chair of the state party.
Cruz allies have since repeatedly pointed to that low blow from Trump as a reason for refusing to support the Republican nominee.
“Tonight, Trump painted a dark picture of an America in decline”.
The acceptance speech by Trump, 70, closed out a four-day convention that underscored his struggle to heal fissures in the Republican Party over his anti-illegal-immigrant rhetoric and concerns about his temperament. The Republican nominee, having spoken from a teleprompter for more than an hour Thursday evening for the final night of his convention, seemed nearly incapable of restraining himself any longer as the campaign moved to its next phase.
Cruz spoke during prime time on Wednesday night at the convention, but did not endorse Trump.
“I have joined the political arena so that the powerful can no longer beat up on people that cannot defend themselves”, Trump said. “I’m am proud to be gay, I am proud to be a Republican, but mostly I am proud to be an American”, Thiel said.
“Our plan will put America First”. Some delegates booed the senator from Texas, while others chanted, “We want Trump!” “So they gave it”, Trump said.
“Every day I wake up determined to deliver a better life for the people all across this nation that have been neglected, ignored, and abandoned….”
If Cleveland demonstrated anything, it is that the GOP is a party at war with itself, shredded to tatters by those who are exhausted of promises that aren’t kept, angry their leaders aren’t leading them anywhere, and anxious their faith, traditions and values are being marginalized by the cultural elites.
As it stands, anti-Clinton anger is what’s bringing Republicans together as a united front, not a billionaire from New York City or any other Republican on that level.
That was perhaps in reaction to the speech given on Monday night by Trump’s wife Melania, who was accused of plagiarism when she repeated lines from a 2008 speech by Michelle Obama, Obama’s wife.
“We will be a country of generosity and warmth. That’s the most important issue to me”, Reyes said, adding he was taking Trump “at his word” that he was the law and order candidate.

Speaking of a “crisis” in the country, following the recent police shootings and attacks, Mr Trump said: “The crime and violence that today afflicts our nation will soon come to an end”. “Many have witnessed this violence personally, some have even been its victims. Beginning on January 20, 2017, safety will be restored”, according to speech excerpts released by his campaign. He received big cheers as he declared, “We can not afford to be so politically correct anymore”. He was introduced by his eldest daughter Ivanka, who promised her father would be a president for all people, not just the rich and well-connected.
