The 40-year-old was accused of drugging women in order to rape them. One of his female victims in Louisiana gave a victim impact statement and slammed the ex-NFL player for continuing his serial behavior even after Sharper knew the victim was talking with state and federal investigators.
We can never ignore the damage you inflicted on those women and society at large, she said.
Sharper apologized to the victims on Thursday, telling the court that he had lived life right for 38 years and has no clue how things went so off the tracks for him.
“They didn’t deserve anything, or to be a part of this heinous decision, which is all on me”. Both have pleaded guilty to charges related to the attacks.
U.S. District Judge Jane Triche Milazzo said Sharper will serve three years under supervised release after his prison sentence and must pay a $20,000 fine. Licciardi pleaded guilty to raping one woman in New Orleans and participating in the drugging scheme. The 40-year-old Sharper reportedly drugged women for the goal of raping them.
Like Sharper, Licciardi and Nunez admitted distributing drugs with the intent to commit rape.
He was also under investigation in other states.
Licciardi, 31, and Nunez, 29, await formal sentencing in front of Milazzo. Sharper is due up first, next Thursday.
Licciardi will be sentenced along with Erik Nunez on 13 October. All three defendants will receive credit for the time they have spent behind bars awaiting the resolution of the case.
Prosecutors suggested a 9-year prison term for Sharper under a multi-jurisdictional plea deal, but Milazzo rejected it in June as too lenient. It was not immediately known if a similar meeting was being proposed by the union.
In a 14-year National Football League career which ended in 2011, Sharper also played for the Green Bay Packers and Minnesota Vikings.
He played in 2010 Super Bowl for Saints that they won and before that for Packers as a rookie.

Sharper was originally jailed in California after he surrendered to authorities in Los Angeles in February 2014.
