Dates for Olympic and Paralympic parades announced

Celebratory events marking the achievements of British Olympians and Paralympians at Rio 2016 will be held in Manchester and London on October 17 and 18 respectively, it has been announced.

It will be followed by a grand celebration in London the next day. I’ve never been home on a gold-nosed plane before.

With a massive haul of 239 medals, the team achieved the best result ever for the nation at the Games while also topping the medal table for the fourth Paralympics in a row, and fans here were eager to welcome them home.

Chef de Mission Kate McLoughlin was over the moon with the team’s top-five finish saying that it was “amazing”.

Manchester, which is the home of British Cycling and taekwondo and the ParalympicsGB swimming team, is the ideal place for a national parade, according to Manchester City Council deputy leader Sue Murphy.

Taekwondo star Jade Jones is among the British Olympians and Paralympians set to be honoured with victory parades next month
