Datsun redi-GO to Get an AMT Variant

Datsun here today unveiled its highly anticipated third model, the trend-setting Datsun redi-GO urban-cross. Marking the reveal, Global Head of Datsun, Vincent Cobee said: “In a sea of lookalike hatchbacks, the Datsun redi-GO’s modern and distinctive looks help it stand out from the crowd”. The Datsun Redi-Go will compete against the likes of Maruti Alto, Hyundai Eon and most importantly the Renault Kwid.

To be launched in June, this will be the third offering from Datsun in India (after the GO and the GO+).

The Redi-Go uses Renault-Nissan’s CMF-A platform, which also underpins the Renault Kwid. But within months of the launch, Datsun will offer the redi-GO with an AMT (automated manual transmission) option as well. This is because the cost structures and small volume for hatches in general means, a made-in-India redi-GO for Indonesia would make better financial sense for the company.

With expected 3700mm length, 1600 width and around 1500mm height, the Datsun redi-GO is set to become the most spacious vehicle in its league followed by the Renault Kwid. Datsun cars are on sale now in India, Indonesia, Russia and South Africa.

With fresh, eye-catching styling, the Datsun Redi-Go boasts striking character lines along the bodywork.

A first in its class, the Redi-Go will also have features like day-time running LED lights. The proportions of the redi-GO are alright too, I guess.

The Datsun Go from 2014 is the first model released by Nissan under Datsun after the brand was discontinued in 1986. The entry level small auto market has been quite lackluster for the past few years and sales have been stagnating at 5-lakh units a year.
