On being questioned if the Go-Cross would warrant a new engine family, Vincent Cobee who heads Datsun did mention that diesel may not be a priority but there may definitely be a new engine in the works. “Our expansion plan include continued growth of sales and service network in the four existing markets, while expanding the our offering to three models in India”.

“We are also studying further business expansion possibilities in other high-growth markets around the world, including Africa”. It will be the first Nissan model which will be based on the CMF-A platform, the one used in the recently launched Renault Kwid.

He added: “Whatever happens next, the Datsun core values of “Dream, Access and Trust” will continue to influence the next phase of our brand’s journey”. The concept comes with all the styling and design cues that the company is giving to its new breed of cars. Given it’s conceptual nature, Datsun is not providing any technical details. The GO-Cross, is based on the GO+ MPV and according to the people at Datsun, the vehicle is just a design exercise, but considering how close a concept it is to reality, we won’t be surprised to see it on the production assembly soon.

The feasibility of such a vehicle is still being studied with the “spirit and a sense of adventure” as its thought behind it. The company wants it to be a auto that can fully handle daily routines but also can be driven on holidays or weekend fun.

“This is a significant day for Datsun”.
