Dave Dombrowski ‘not concerned’ about Pablo Sandoval’s weight

Boston signed Daisuke Matsuzaka to a six-year, $52 million contract in 2006, not accounting for the $51.1 million posting fee they paid his Japanese team for exclusive negotiating rights.

“When you combine the arms that Dave’s been able to bring in (with the offense), now it’s a team that projects to be very strong offensively and on the mound”, manager John Farrell said as the team was showing up in Fort Myers, Fla.

Well, good news, baseball fans! David Ortiz has rarely been in shape and a Boston Globe writer once said that Kevin Youkilis didn’t look as an MVP candidate, but as a butcher or refrigerator repairman.

Baseball Reference lists the 29-year-old at 5-foot-11 and 255 pounds.

Pablo Sandoval was a huge disappointment in 2015. That will happen in time.” NOTES: All Red Sox pitchers and catchers have reported except right-hander Joe Kelly, the leading candidate for the fifth spot in the rotation, whose wife recently gave birth and is expected early next week… Dombrowski, Farrell, Lovello all on the record over time saying he was. After DD shipped Price out to Toronto in the midst of a Tigers’ fire sale, the lefty had a stellar 2nd half of 2015 with the Blue Jays. Plus, the Orioles may be close to making yet another free agent signing. The problem with Sandoval’s weight is that he had an abysmal season past year. And he was rewarded with a nice chunk of change with Boston.

Kimbrel said he’s not fazed by American League parks that favor hitters, especially Fenway. His OPS dropped for the fourth consecutive season, a trend that only raised the volume of discontent considering the two-time All-Star was beginning a five-year, $95 million deal.

Clay Buchholz has been with the Red Sox for nearly a decade and he has something to prove this season. He continued to say that he does his work, trying to do everything he can, both at the plate and in the field.

Said Farrell: “I can’t tell you if he got on the scale or not”. His Defensive Runs Saved Above Average, a stat which measures a player’s worth in runs for/against their team and is dependent on their level of play, was a whopping -19 runs.

-1B Hanley Ramirez tried playing left field last season and was a disaster.

“I guess he’s always had weight issues”.

The Panda does know about championships. The 255 pounder then went on to hit a mediocre. First base was the only position with an opening heading into the offseason and Dombrowski and Red Sox manager John Ferrell hope it is a place where he can’t hurt the team.

If he had eliminated that first line, and said everything else, he might have been fine. And yet he still isn’t kicking up a fuss about Sandoval’s weight.

Being a Red Sox fan is nothing short of an emotional rollercoaster. He won three of them as a San Francisco Giant.

Dave Dombrowski said the Red Sox were watching Pablo Sandoval “very closely all winter. We had people with him at least once a week.”
