Dave Grohl responds to 1000 rockers who played ‘Learn to Fly’

The project kicked off in spring 2014, when Fabio Zaffagnini and several friends were looking for “a mad idea” to convince the rock band to come to Cesena, in central Italy, to play for them.

Well, the fan’s efforts worked.

Along with those few words in Italian, the frontman of Foo Fighters shared a video, in which he spoke in Italian to those who wowed him with that stunning performance of “Learn to Fly”.

Grohl himself saw it and posted the video to the Foo Fighter’s Facebook and Twitter page with a simple “Ci vediamo a presto, Cesena … xxx Davide” – meaning “See you soon, Cesena … xxx David”.

“I am sorry I don’t speak Italian, just a bit, a bit”. But your video, it was attractive, incredibly handsome. Super nice. Thank you so much.

He told Q magazine: “I sent one email to Emily [Eavis] and her husband, apologising for missing the event and she invited me to come back some day, even just to camp out and watch the show for the weekend. I love you. Bye”. He decided, the best way to persuade the band is by having 1,000 fans play together a Foo Fighters’ hit song.

The city rallied together to assemble 250 singers, 350 guitarists, 150 bassists and 250 drummers, creating the Rockin’ 1000.
