David Ayer spoke to Empire recently and firmly declared that he never really meant to make Suicide Squad an R-rated movie in the first place. Furthermore, “Suicide Squad” failed to give us a deep insight on The Joker. Will Smith, playing Deadshot, basically played the same character he plays in every movie where he’s a deadpan, wise-cracking action hero with the only motivation this time around being wanting to see his daughter.
“And the [Harley and Joker] backstory stuff, though it’s magic, some of the stuff we shot was insane“. It’s also worth nothing Harley does have a child in the Injustice Universe, but based on Harley’s fantasy – which has been divisive – it’s implied she doesn’t have kids yet in Suicide Squad. Joker had no objective in the present timeline, it seemed as though he was there to fill time in the movie. “It’s the thing we’re all trying to do, but I think Rick’s mind and his heart are in an excellent place, and his expertise as a filmmaker, as evidenced by Dope, all come together as very exciting factors to me”.

“You just don’t get that, especially not in a big-budget film”. She was able to show control over Flagg at all times making her one of the best parts of the movie. Ayer has been dropping knowledge about Suicide Squad throughout the film’s press tour – he’s spoken on how he feels the film fits into DC canon, and put a popular (if deeply flawed) fan theory to bed. “Suicide Squad” delivers a great story of an unlikely group of misfits and develops enough to get attached and I can’t wait for the sequel. “People really wanted more Joker and wanted him to be an A-plot component”.
