New York’s Carnegie Hall is to host a memorial concert for Bowie on March 31st. The Music of David Bowie was billed as a tribute show featuring his songs, but has now been changed to a memorial.

David Bowie died from liver cancer, a friend has revealed.

“Over the years, we have performed David Bowie’s music both at live shows and just futzing around in the rehearsal space”, Toadies guitarist Clark Vogeler says in one of the band’s reminiscences on the website.

It was announced yesterday that a tribute would be paid to Bowie at the Brit awards next month, celebrating what Brit chairman Max Lousada described as the “extraordinary life and work of one of our greatest icons”.

Bowie, who died of cancer on Sunday, was named Best British Male twice – in 1984 and 2014 – and received the Outstanding Contribution to British Music award in 1996.

Believe it or not, if Blackstar does indeed debut at the top of the album chart, it will mark David Bowie’s very first #1 album in the States.

“Blackstar” was released two days before Bowie’s death and has been dubbed his “farewell album”, with mentions of death and heaven throughout its lyrics.

On the day of Bowie’s death, she posted, “The Struggle is real, but so is God”.

He said: “I have known for about a year”.

The museum had been prepared to host the exhibition over Bowie’s 69th birthday and the release of his new album.

The likes of Mick Jagger, Sir Paul McCartney and Sir Elton John are said to be among the names invited to play in the tribute.

Sir Mick said: “David was always an inspiration to me and a true original”.

Most people would be satisfied with the life of a bonafide rock star, or being hailed as one of the most well-respected musicians of their time, but Bowie needed to more.
