The shape-shifting rock icon, who died Sunday following a secret struggle with an unspecified cancer, also beamed during last month’s NY premiere of his Off Broadway musical, “Lazarus” – his final public appearance.

“I’ve known for more than a year”.

Bowie’s supermodel wife Iman, who has not commented publicly on his death, posted a series of poignant messages on social media in the days before he passed away.

Gaga was being interviewed on The Hollywood Reporter podcast to explain some of the history behind the song she recently wrote with Diane Warren, “Til It Happens To You” when she cited Bowie’s influence.

“Or they’d go, ‘Well how come you changed your name to the singers name?”

“And I spoke with David about it and he said, “Absolutely that’s the right decision”… but I often wonder what might have been”.

As Fallon said while holding up Bowie’s last album “Blackstar”, released Friday, “Play it loudly, and just thank him”.

Van Hove said Bowie was desperate to finish Blackstar and Lazarus before it was too late.

Desperate not to disappoint his fans despite his poor health, the Starman hitmaker attended the December premiere of his musical in NY but “collapsed from exhaustion” behind the scenes. While his passing came as a shock to everyone, Brian says that in retrospect, he can see that David was bidding him farewell in his own way before he lost his life.

Producer Tony Visconti previously called the album Blackstar “his parting gift”. Bowie made his debut at Carnegie Hall in September 1972 as part of his first United States tour. “I wasn’t, however, prepared for it”.

The Clarendon say: “Ziggy Stardust, Major Tom, Aladdin Sane, the Thin White Duke, Tao Jones, Halloween Jack, John Merrick… the one and only David Bowie”. He will always be with us.
