David Bowie Has Ten Albums In UK Top 40 Chart

His new album, Blackstar, reached number one, selling nearly 150,000 copies since its release last week.

The figure includes “241,000 album sales, 167,000 singles purchased, and Bowie tracks were streamed over 19 million times on audio streaming services such as Spotify, Apple Music, Google Play, Deezer and more”. Amongst those to re-enter the top 40 are two compilations – Nothing Has Changed and Best Of 1969/1974, as well as the likes of Hunky Dory, The Rise & Fall of Ziggy Stardust, The Next Day and Low.

After David Bowie passed away on Sunday at age 69, fans around the world grieved and responded in a number of different ways.

Bowie’s death after a secret 18-month battle with cancer and two days after releasing a new album caused shock and dismay around the world and sent sales soaring of both his old and new music.

The song Lazarus from his final album “Blackstar” has been the most watched video with 11.1 million views.

Despite very much feeling like the only person of import this week, Bowie isn’t alone in the debut stakes, let alone strong placers, with Adam Brand & The Outlaws’ self-titled LP making the highest non-Bowie debut at #6, and the Straight Outta Compton soundtrack earning #15 on entry.

“He always did what he wanted to do”, said Visconti in a tribute message.

“He made Blackstar for us, his parting gift”.

Thirteen Bowie tracks also entered the top 100, led by Heroes at number 12.

Bowie’s family said they were “overwhelmed” by the tributes that have been paid to the singer since his death.

Despite being one of Britain’s most beloved musicians, Bowie only had five No 1 singles in his career, and spent a total of just 13 weeks in the top slot.

In related news, Fuse reported earlier this week that it appears as if Amazon may be guilty of price-gouging its Bowie merchandise, given the heightened interest in his output following his death.
