The death of David Bowie has people mourning worldwide, and local connections are emerging.
Van Hove said Bowie was desperate to finish “Blackstar” and “Lazarus” before it was too late. “He has a brand new album called Blackstar“, Fallon said, holding up a copy of the album cover. Coming just two days after his birthday, and the release of what would be his final album, Blackstar, the news of his passing seemed especially shocking.
“Crushed is the only way I can describe it, definitely, just devastated”, said one fan visiting a memorial in Brixton, the London neighbourhood where Bowie is from.
Desperate not to disappoint his fans despite his poor health, the Starman hitmaker attended the December premiere of his musical in NY but “collapsed from exhaustion” behind the scenes.
“I knew for a year this was the way it would be”.
Ivo added to the Daily Mirror newspaper: “It was written that he looked so well, so healthy”.
Yoko Ono and her late husband John Lennon became friends with Bowie and she has praised him on a human level for his involvement in their son Sean’s life following The Beatles star’s assassination in December 1980. The event, which organisers spent the last seven months planning, will now memorialise Bowie’s life and his profound influence on music. “I’m very selfish about what I want to do, and as I get older I get more selfish”.
But behind the scenes, Bowie was quietly telling a different story.

Bowie’s breakthrough came in 1972 with the album The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars. “Who knows, but we’re sure you’ll want to join us in congratulating him on both”. He will always be with us. “I realise now he was saying goodbye”.
