David Bowie musical Lazarus to open in London

A musical written by David Bowie is heading to the London stage. Songs from albums as early as “The Man Who Sold the World” and “Hunky Dory” sit alongside more modern songs from albums such as “Blackstar” and “The Next Day”, including classics such as “Life on Mars”, “Heroes” and “Changes”.

The production was given a New York debut past year, with the New York Theatre Workshop run selling out in record time.

The London production will see the show’s NY leads Michael C Hall, Michael Esper, and Sophia Anne Caruso, reprising their roles.

The musical tells the story of Thomas Newton – an extraterrestrial stuck on Earth, unable to die and haunted by a past love.

Tickets for the NY run of Lazarus sold out within hours, and the opening night of the production on December 7, 2015, was Bowie’s last public appearance.

David Bowie was born in south London and forged a unique career as a singer, songwriter and actor.

Bowie’s last public appearance before his death in January this year was at the opening night of the production.

The play was written by David and Enda Walsh and will be directed by Ivo Van Hove.

The UK transfer of Lazarus has scenic and lighting design by Jan Versweyveld, costumes by An D’Huys, hair and wigs by Richard Mawbey, video by Tal Yarden and sound by Tony Gayle.
