David Bowie’s family thanks fans for their support, plans private memorial

The image recognition and augmented reality app Blippar is allowing David Bowie fans to pay tribute to the late singer by allowing them to create and share selfies of themselves as Ziggy Stardust.

Receiving an incredible 11.1 million views, the achievement was led by “Lazarus” – the second single from his 26th studio album Blackstar (2016) which was released just days before his passing. “The council would like to commemorate Bowie and welcomes suggestions but of course, will discuss any plans with his family at an appropriate time”.

He said: “In memory of David Bowie we would like everyone in the world who was ever touched by his art to play “Starman” at 12 noon tomorrow Saturday January 16″.

It added that the concerts and tributes in the coming weeks were “most welcome” but “none are official memorials organized or endorsed by the family”. Bowie’s music video catalog has seen 51 million views in a day.

DAVID Bowie died last week, following an 18-month battle with cancer.

Bowie’s final album, Blackstar, debuted on Friday and is on track to score the star his first US number one when the new Billboard 200 chart is officially released on Sunday.

Speaking to Rolling Stone, he said: “At that late stage, he was planning the follow-up to Blackstar”. “Obviously, if he’s excited about doing his next album, he must’ve thought he had a few more months”.
