The album will be a follow-up to 2013’s “The Next Day”, which received largely positive reviews for its blend of styles that held true to Bowie’s celestial charm.

“Blackstar” is also featured in Lazarus, the Off-Broadway play co-written by Bowie and Enda Walsh. The single Blackstar is ten minutes long and will see a release on November 17.

Recorded at the Magic Shop studio in New York with local jazz musicians, Blackstar may well be the odd-est work yet from the 68-year-old singer and eternal chameleon. ” and saying that it was from his first album in 10 years, The Next Day, which arrived a few months later”. Billboard recently reported that the British artist’s promoter, John Giddings, was firm about Bowie never touring again.

Blackstar is the latest in a series of David Bowie albums that have been inspired by aliens and other sci-fi subjects.

The new record will reportedly be released on January 8th 2016 – Bowie’s 69th birthday – according to a new feature in The Times on Saturday (October 24th). A few other Bowie albums that show this inspiration are Space Oddity, The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars, and Earthling. From the brief clip below, it sounds as if Bowie’s voice has not aged at all, remaining as vibrant and as soulful as ever.
