“And I was thrilled, and I thought, and he thought, that he’d have a few months, at least”.

“And I spoke with David about it and he said, “Absolutely that’s the right decision”… but I often wonder what might have been”.

His death soon followed his 69th birthday and the release of his latest album Blackstar, which is on its way to becoming Bowie’s first No. 1 album in America.

Sir Paul referenced the part Bowie’s music has played in British musical history, writing on his blog: “I’m proud to think of the huge influence he has had on people all around the world”.

“His death was no different from his life – a work of art”, said Mr Visconti.

Bowie’s previous album “The Next Day”, which came out in 2013 after he was absent for a decade, rose as far as number two on the U.S. chart.

Angie Bowie has broken down in tears after being informed inside the Celebrity Big Brother house that her ex-husband David Bowie is dead. Later, the Queen of Pop tweeted: ” Paying Tribute to My Favorite Rebel heart!”

Weeks before his death he told Hove, who made a musical based on his songs, that he wanted to “make a second one now” in a sign that his creative spirit was undiminished.
