Following his passing, hordes of celebrities took to Twitter to pay their respects, with Rolling Stones frontman Mick sharing a touching post on Monday night.

He added: “His star will shine in the sky forever”.
“His death was no different from his life – a work of Art”, Bowie’s producer Tony Visconti said. It ended with this sentence: “Thank you for our good times, Brian”. And it was signed “Dawn”.
One tribute came from a real star man: British astronaut Tim Peake, who wrote a message from the International Space Station: “Saddened to hear David Bowie has lost his battle with cancer – his music was an inspiration to many”. “There’s no-one else even close”.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said the news about Bowie’s death was “dreadful”, describing him as “a hero for so much more than just one day” and tweeting a link to Space Oddity, a song she said “always made me cry when I was wee”.
Fans have gathered to lay flowers beside a mural of David Bowie in Brixton, the south London neighborhood where the singer was born in 1947.
“Lazarus” was the very last song that Bowie released before his death.
He was the first recording artist to sell bonds, known as ‘Bowie Bonds, ‘ against his intellectual property and backed by future earnings of his music.
Bowie remarked on his creative flexibility when I spoke with him in 1999 about his collaborations with Gabrels, who co-produced Earthling and co-wrote more than 70 songs with Bowie. “He was the best there is”. “But I think the catalog of music left behind will ensure his legacy will continue to grow”, he said.
Bowie performed in Hong Kong in 1983 and 2004.
Streaming giant Spotify said streams of Bowie’s music were up 2,700 percent on Monday, while the Official Charts Company in the United Kingdom said Bowie’s “Blackstar” album was headed to the top spot on the charts with sales of 43,000 since its Friday release.
Lady Gaga, who maybe draws comparisons to Bowie most often, has expressed her admiration for the late icon: “He still runs my universe as well”.
Beginning with the critically-acclaimed “Hunky Dory”, he went on to produce “The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars”, followed by rock album “Aladdin Sane“, the apocalyptic “Diamond Dogs” before a fling with so-called plastic soul on “Young Americans“.
The 1980s saw him combine his pop career with appearances in films including A bsolute Beginners – as well as a memorable turn as the Goblin King in the fantasy film, Labyrinth.
Probably more noteworthy is Bowie’s starring role in Nicolas Roeg’s The Man Who Fell to Earth (1976), which Mercury Music Editor Ned Lannamann correctly notes is “one of the strangest, most indelible visions of alien visitors committed to film”.
