David Bowie tops US music charts post death

Billboard is reporting that, in its first week, Blackstar “earned 181,000 equivalent album units” – their metric that incorporates streaming and individual digital track sales – with 174,000 of those coming from full album sales.

Nineteen of his albums entered the United Kingdom album charts last week, after fans sought out his classic hits. “Blackstar is the first posthumous album to land at No. 1 since Michael Jackson’s ‘This is It” soundtrack in 2009.

“Blackstar” knocks Adele’s “25” off the top spot, a position which it held for seven weeks.

Belgian astronomers have paid tribute to late music legend David Bowie, giving him a seven-star constellation in the shape of the iconic lightning bolt seen across his face on the cover of his Aladdin Sane album.

In addition, the “Space Oddity” singer apparently didn’t intend for “Blackstar” to be his final album, as his longtime producer Tony Visconti revealed last week that Bowie expected to release at least one more album before his death.

Several Bowie singles also made their mark this week, the Charts Company said, with “Heroes” coming in at 12, “Life on Mars” at 16, “Starman” at 18 and “Let’s Dance” at 23.

Two of Bowie’s compilations appear in the Top 10. However, he never had a No. 1 charting album until Blackstar.

After re-peaking last week at No.4, Jonas Blue and Dakota jump up two places this week to No. 2 with their tropical house version of Fast Car, beating the peak of the original by Tracy Chapmam, which reached No. 4 in 1988. The collection which discharged only two days before his demise, is as of now soaring to the top spot on the Billboard outlines and is prone to defeat Adele’s 25 this week, Billboard said. Twenty One Pilots’ Blurryface came in at fifth place with 43,000 copies sold. Bryson Tiller’s Trapsoul went up to No. 8. Aussie chanteuse Grace continues to do good business with the Brits, too, as You Don’t Own Me, featuring G-Eazy, drops a smidge but hangs inside the top 10 at #7.
