Angie broke down on the show, which is now being shown on TV3 and Channel 5 in the United Kingdom, on learning of Bowie’s sudden death on Sunday after a battle with cancer.

“Possibly the thing that most people are saying is that it was such a shock, ” Ms Broomfield said.

“He was very aware of where society was going and how he wanted to interact with it”.

While it’s the line from Bowie’s 28th studio album Blackstar that has been the most quoted following the British music, film, fashion and visual arts icon’s death earlier this week, it’s not the eeriest.

Following the news of his death on Monday, David Bowie’s fans have pored over the lyrics on his final album, Blackstar (depicted by the symbol ★), for final messages left by the great musician. So ahead of his time…

Lock had a unique relationship with Bowie, who eagerly pursued a collaboration with his dance company for years before it finally came to fruition.

According to Bowie, searching for music is similar to searching for God as both of them are “unmentionable, unsayable, unseeable, and unspeakable”.

“The way to his heart is through an idea”, said Lock, who served as artistic director for the tour.

In the first of many re-inventions, he named himself David Bowie in 1966 to avoid confusion with Davy Jones, lead singer with Beatles rivals The Monkees, and studied Buddhism and mime. In the clip, Bowie is game to O’Brien’s gimmicks, including a photo history of Bowie’s (fake) onstage personas as well as singing an O’Brien-penned song. “He was loved by everybody and you felt he loved us”.

Fans were asked to bring their Bowie tracks to be played throughout the evening as fans said goodbye to their hero.

Blackstar looks certain to hold on to the number one spot on Friday with just under 90,000 combined sales since its release on January 8 – Bowie’s 69th birthday.

The actress herself – Geeling Ng, now a restauranteur in Auckland – told the New Zealand Herald after Bowie’s death she remained ‘utterly proud to be China Girl‘.

A crowd of more than 2,000 people spent the evening in the colorful south London district of Brixton where he was born – some clutching beers, others wearing Bowie t-shirts – to lay flowers beneath a giant mural of his face.

It is even eerier that Bowie sang “Lazarus” in his new album, referring to the biblical saint who was resurrected to life after four days.
