Mr Cameron, who resigned as PM after June’s European Union referendum, said he did not want to be a “distraction” for Theresa May. I support Theresa May, I think she’s got off to a great start, I think she can be a strong Prime Minister for our country.
May 2015 The Conservative Party unexpectedly win an outright majority in the 2015 General Election, following months of polling suggested that a coalition government was the most likely result.
He said the timing was coincidental, adding that there were “many good things” in the proposed education reforms and that he had not meant for his decision to come on the same day that the new government introduced a consultation paper on the school policy.
Cameron’s resignation from the Parliament is seen as unusually early and it is believed that he resigned after Theresa May, last week, chose to permit the state-funded schools to reintroduce selection by academic ability.
It is not that surprising that the man who used to be in charge has chose to go.
‘So Brits DO quit, ‘ says the paper in its main headline, as it covers David Cameron’s resignation.
Mr. Cameron said his resignation would take effect immediately.
“I was proud to serve in David Cameron government – and under his leadership we achieved great things”, May wrote on her Facebook Page.
“And we did make some important social reform. His commitment to leading a one nation government is one that I will continue”.
The ruling Conservative Party elected Mrs.
Ex-chancellor George Osborne said he was sorry his “great friend” was stepping down.
“With modern politics, with the circumstances of my resignation, it isn’t really possible to be a proper backbench MP, as a former prime minister”.
“He walked away from the country in June and now he’s done the same to his constituents”.
Boris Johnson – the current foreign secretary who played an instrumental role in the Leave campaign – praised Cameron on Twitter: “Sad to see @David_Cameron standing down:modernising Tory party – delivered sustained economic recovery – incredible record of public service”.
