David Horsey eventually reined in with 59 on the cards

He did also drop three shots in the first 10 holes but three more birdies on the back nine cancelled them out as he reached the halfway point at 12 under at the Himmerland Golf and Spa Resort.

Lawrie remains 7 strokes off leader David Horsey, but insists he is exclusively focused on ensuring he maintains his European Tour status.

“I holed my third shot on the 11th from 130 yards to make eagle, then I had five birdies in a row from the 13th, so it was a very good first nine”.

Scotland’s former Open champion Paul Lawrie was a shot further back on six under.

“It’s always fabulous to get off to a start like that”.

“I’m pleased with how I handled myself in that situation and you don’t get many opportunities to shoot 59, so I can probably be excused for letting it creep in”.

“I know she might think I’m a bit silly but it’s going to be a great memory for us as we grow older”, added Harto who has yet to record a win on the tour.

After a birdie on No. 16, Harto drew his now-fiancee, Louise De Fries, out from the crowd on Himmerland Hill, the large area that surrounds the putting surface.

The 30-year-old, chasing a fourth European Tour title, had stretched his lead to seven at one stage before the chasing pack closed in.

However, Fitzpatrick suffered a set back on the ninth when he hit a double bogey six.
