David Ortiz Wowed By ‘Human Avatar’ Giancarlo Stanton’s Home Run Derby Dominance
Cano, the No. 4 seed, mustered only seven and was routed by No. 5 Stanton’s wonderful barrage.

Stanton even advanced to the finals round of the 2016 Home Run Derby against the defending champion Todd Frazier, according to SB Nation Stanton showed that he had some steam left in him. He closed his round with eight straight home runs.
Stanton hit 24 homers in the first round to eliminate the Seattle Mariners’ Robinson Cano (seven) and 17 in the semifinals to knock out Mark Trumbo (14) of the Baltimore Orioles.
Without a doubt the most powerful hitter in baseball won the Home Run Derby last night.
“I grew up watching this”, he said. “The outs come down on you while the four minutes, you build up to that”. “In a sense, I owe him a huge thank you for not only myself but for my family and hopefully I can maybe sway somebody in the right direction as well, like he did for me”. “I would like to return that”.
“I had a blast”, Stanton told the national television audience.
Former Sanford Mainer and Cincinnati Reds’ Adam Duvall also impressed, hitting a combined 26 homers and reaching the semifinal stage. Next year, Stanton can protect his title at home when the All-Star Game is hosted by the Marlins.
“Depends how the year’s going, depends where it is”, he said. “So there’s a pretty good chance”.
With the performance, Stanton beat No. 1 overall seed Mark Trumbo, who led the majors with 28 home runs coming into the contest.
Seager started slowly by Derby standards.
“I’m more rapid fire in the way I work and with regular [batting practice]”.
In examining the offer on the Marlins’ site, fine print reveals the offer was limited to 25 percent off regular pricing for select games and expires at 11:59 p.m. Tuesday. Trumbo, an Orange County native who becomes a free agent next year, apparently doesn’t care for hometown discounts. Although the Marlins star is tied for 16th in Major League Baseball with 20 home runs, he entered the event as many fans’ favorite to win.

“It was a lot of fun”, the rookie shortstop said. “I’m just happy that he’s here”. Home Run Derby purists, if such a type exist, will hang on to that for an undetermined amount of time and ask for an asterisk to be placed by Stanton’s number.
