Davis Cup: ‘No panic’ over final amid threat

I don’t really want to linger on David Lloyd’s remarks too much – social media seems to have battered him enough – except to say that he claims it isn’t about winning, yet as long as they’re not winning ugly and dubiously, it’s always the winners, the champions, the most successful, that inspire.

Against a resilient French team in the quarterfinals at the Queen’s Club, the brothers teamed up to win the doubles event while Andy once again posted singles wins for a 3-1 victory. “We are especially looking forward to this weekend’s Davis Cup by BNP Paribas Final in Belgium, as it is a key market for us following our recent launch in the country”. Not only just for the security, I think it’s important for us as a team.

Henman said: “I think it was evident in his performance at the O2 that he was a bit distracted, and that’s perfectly acceptable when you’ve got a Davis Cup final around the corner”.

The hosts for the tie, Belgium have chosen clay as the surface for this year’s final in an attempt to limit the threat possessed by Andy Murray, with it his weakest surface by some distance.

“I know when you win a slam or a big competition, it’s years, obviously, in the works”. Great Britain are the favourites for me, I think, with Murray on the team and the fantastic doubles team.

The security situation continues to be a major issue, with the first of what is estimated to be 5,000 fans from the United Kingdom expected to start arriving today.

“At the [lead-up] ties you think everything is fine, and the security, you don’t necessarily need it. But, in situations like this, it’s great we have such capable people able to give us the best advice”.

“He has experience of winning the junior Davis Cup under me”. It doesn’t matter that we don’t play often together outside of Davis Cup because we know each other so well. Maybe Kim and Justine will come to watch us play: I think there will be a lot of emotion, a insane crowd. Which is what happened: I played [Adrien] Bossel [the world No334] in the fifth rubber. Meanwhile British captain Leon Smith has reversed his earlier inclination to make an early selection.

“Obviously I understand if people make another decision because of what’s been happening in Brussels”.

A training partner of Andy Murray’s for the past two winters, the world number two has full confidence in Edmund’s ability, and it is a sentiment shared by the captain Smith, who has now taken on the added role of being the Tickton star’s coach. It takes a few days normally to get over the time difference, which is just three hours. We find ways to deal with that.
