For Day, it was a round to forget from the outset.

“It’s obviously not the way I wanted to play”, Day said.

DULUTH, Ga. – Tom Watson said farewell to the Masters last week and then went back to work on his swing.

The American duo Jason Kokrak and Charley Hoffman are a shot back on six under but Donald is well set to kick start a season that has returned only one top-25 finish and saw him miss the Masters. Hoffman held the lead after a birdie on 16, but bogeyed the final two holes.

Luke Donald slipped further back after holding the lead heading into the weekend, his five under par opening round was followed by a level par 71.

Three of the birdies came on the first five holes. “Some years are great, some years you have this overcast weather and you’re going to have to deal with it. It beats being at home”, said Bruce Jones, RBC Heritage spectator. But he’s known as much for his disheartening defeats on Pete Dye’s tricky layout.

“I think if there’s one tournament I’ve been in this position the most, it would be this one”. “To me, if you’re not hitting like a really good three-quarter shot or really in command of your ball flight, the wind can wreak havoc on the ball”.

His round derailed on the par-4 third where his tee shot found water before he went on to make a double bogey.

Starting on the back nine, Day dropped a shot on the 17th before immediately recovering the shot with a birdie. “I certainly don’t want to be sitting on the couch watching people win majors”. “I just tried to stay patient”.

Day attempted to take his poor play in stride, signing autographs for fans behind the 18th green. “And my bad play, I just felt like it may have affected him”. He had four birdies and one bogey.

“It was a solid round”, Burnett said.

A year ago at Ko Olina, she won by holing out from 154 yards for eagle on the first hole of a playoff with Inbee Park.

Defending US Women’s Open champion Chun In-Gee fired a 65 and is tied for third at 10-under in just her second start after a freak collision with a suitcase that sidelined her for a month.

Burnett shot a 70.

The 52-year-old Austin has two victories in the last three events on the 50-and-over tour.

Paul Goydos had a 67 to finish third at 10 under.
