US Open champion Dustin Johnson birdied four of the final five holes to open up a three-shot lead over Paul Casey after the third round at the BMW Championship in IN on Saturday.

Dustin Johnson came through a final-day tussle with Paul Casey to claim a convincing three-stroke win at the BMW Championship.

Englishman Casey also shot 67 for second place at 20 under, his second consecutive runner-up finish, with American Roberto Castro (67) another three shots back in third place.

Martin said Day likely would get an MRI for “precautionary reasons”, and they would take a wait-and-see approach to the Tour Championship in Atlanta. Then he floored it at Crooked Stick Golf Club.

In Johnson’s sights now is the possibility of a $10 million bonus for winning the FedEx Cup – or certainly a big payout regardless – as well as creeping closer to Day’s No. 1 world ranking.

Asked if he had done enough to be picked, Fowler said, “I would like to think so”.

Castro was five clear of five players, including the best-placed Australian Adam Scott (71), who all finished on 12-under in fourth place.

“If you can put it on the right side of the flag, it makes your week really, really easy – or easier”, Casey said.

Paul Casey, of England, putts on the sixth hole during the second round of the BMW Championship golf tournament at Crooked Stick Golf Club in Carmel, Ind., Friday, Sept. 9, 2016.

Johnson said he was delighted with the way he played all week, the win due in no small part to the new Spyder putter he put in his bag after hitting just one practice putt with it before the tournament.

The world No. 1 will have a week to rest his injury, as the Tour Championship, the last of the four FedEx Cup playoff events, does not start until September 22 at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta.

He qualified for the Tour Championship in 2013, and the next year he ended up losing his PGA Tour card.

“Hopefully I’m saving my best for last, that would be a great way to finish the year”, Scott said.

Day has a long history of battling both injury and illness, and his agent indicated that the Aussie is now dealing with a pinched joint capsule in his lower back that is causing muscle spasms. But Johnson’s reply was swift and decisive, grabbing an eagle of his own moments later to maintain his three-stroke advantage.
