Hardin says after detectives met Silverthorne at a hotel Thursday night, they saw him meet suppliers and they were arrested, too.
The Fairfax mayor’s office declined comment Friday.
For Silverthorne, whose father was also mayor in the late 1970s and early 1980s, the arrest was just the latest episode in two years of misfortune. The suspect arranged to bring methamphetamine along with other men to the engagement. Those men were also undercover detectives.
Fairfax County Schools spokesman John Torre says Silverthorne was hired as a substitute teacher in April and terminated Friday because of this arrest.
Silverthrone showed up on Thursday at around 7pm and was taken into custody minutes later on charges of distribution of methamphetamine and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. “Callers who wish to remain anonymous may provide information through Crime Solvers electronically by visiting fairfaxcrimesolvers.org or by calling 1-866-411-TIPS (8477)”.
He also revealed that the online profile created for the casual sex site by their detective was designed based on what they had learned Silverthrone was drawn to in a man.
Silverthorne, a Democrat elected in 2012, was charged with exchanging meth for sex with men.
Silverthorne will be arraigned on Friday.
Police also arrested Silverthorne’s alleged suppliers, 34-year-old Juan Jose Fernandez and 21-year-old Caustin Lee McLaughlin, both of whom reside in Maryland.
Police said the mayor was compliant and provided a full confession of everything he did. All three men are now being held in the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.
Last year, he was laid off from his recruitment job with the National Association of Manufacturers, the Washington Post reported. McLaughlin was charged with felony distribution of methamphetamine, felony obstruction of justice, and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.
The make matters worse, an oncologist diagnosed Silverthorne with squamous cell carcinoma of the neck.
