DC Fans Create Petition To Shut Down Rotten Tomatoes
In the dominant narrative of the “Suicide Squad” revolt and others like it, “the critics” as a group are cast as antagonists, particularly when the films in their fandom review poorly.

Directed by David Ayer and starring Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Jared Leto, Viola Davis, Jai Courtney, and Joel Kinnaman, Suicide Squad will open in the United Kingdom and USA on August 5, 2016. One such obsessive, Abdullah Coldwater, started an online petition after the ratings for “Suicide Squad” were released called “Shutdown [sic] Rotten Tomatoes”. Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice was met with absolutely bad reviews, and now sits at a dire 27 percent approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. But it does have more than 10,600 supporters at this point.
As of press time, Rotten Tomatoes was still extant.
Last I checked, Suicide Squad was on track to have an August near-record-breaking-opening, with some estimates stating the movie may open to around $145 million, so it doesn’t seem all that bad.
“Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” and “Man of Steel” have 27 percent and 55 percent ratings on the site, respectively.
“Suicide Squad” is the third straight DC Comics-inspired film to receive a “rotten” rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Suicide Squad is now tracking for a massive opening weekend, but if the word of mouth isn’t great, it could suffer a similar fate to that of Batman V Superman, if not worse. But for many of those critics who set out to evaluate the film as a story told to an audience beyond the game’s core community of players, “Warcraft” failed. A “Wonder Woman” film is now in the works, with big-screen adaptations of the Flash, Batman and Cyborg also expected in the coming years.
Somewhat ironically, as noted by Entertainment Weekly, the company behind the movies set in the DC universe – Warner Bros – owned Rotten Tomatoes up until February of this year, when it was sold to Fandango.

“Man of Steel”, “Batman v. Superman” and “Suicide Squad” are all part of a shared film universe created to compete with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which includes Iron Man, Captain America, Spider-Man and the Avengers franchise.
