DC ‘Highly Vigilant’ After New York, New Jersey Bomb Attacks
New Jersey Transit service trains resumed service on the Northeast Corridor and North Jersey Coast Line at 5:30 a.m. Monday, but they faced residual delays because service was suspended after the devices were found.

The device was one of five discovered late Sunday night in a backpack stashed in a trashcan near the railway station.
Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo made the statement Monday after the New York Police Department said authorities were searching for 28-year-old Ahmad Khan Rahami in connection with the bombing.
On Sunday night, two homeless men grabbed a backpack left in the trash near a train station in Elizabeth, New Jersey, only to discover that it contained several apparent pipe bombs. Rahami, a naturalized citizen from Afghanistan, had lived at that address in Elizabeth, which is above a fried chicken restaurant reportedly owned by his father. There were no injuries or damages, and the Semper Five race was canceled. At least one of the devices exploded while authorities were trying to disarm them.
Amtrak was operating on a modified schedule. “The other devices, I don’t know what the Federal Bureau of Investigation and State Police are doing at this moment, but they are trying to remove them in a secure way so they can preserve them for evidence”.
“They will be there for the next few hours, going through this location to find any evidence possible, whether it’s in relation to this incident or the Chelsea incident”, he said.
New Jersey Transit says service has been suspended between Newark Liberty Airport and Elizabeth.
The recent events have also led to an increased precautionary police presence surrounding NJ Transit’s New Brunswick train station this morning after a suspicious package was found on top of the Douglas Parking Deck on the Rutgers New Brunswick campus. When they saw wires and pipes they left the bag and walked to a police station to report it, according to Bollwage. At around 12:30 a.m., a loud explosion occurred in the area, according to local reporters who took to social media. Bomb techs from the FBI, Union County, and the New Jersey State Police have arrived on the scene and are now rendering the area safe.
Bollwage said two men called police and reported seeing wires and a pipe coming out of a package after finding it at about 9:30 pm on Sunday. New Jersey-bound Amtrak trains were being held at New York Penn Station, officials said, while New York-bound Amtrak trains were being held in Trenton.
