“A search will begin this morning and go through end of day tomorrow”, Lanier said at a press conference Wednesday morning.

Relisha’s disappearance triggered investigations of problems at D.C. General.

Lanier said that the search would cover “a pretty extensive area” at the Arboretum, including a body of water.

Relisha Rudd was 8 years old and living in a city homeless shelter when she disappeared in March 2014.

Rudd, who was a second-grader at Payne Elementary School, had not been seen there since the month before her disappearance.

Search efforts have been ongoing since she was first reported missing. Lanier added police will not give up and keep pursuing any information which helps them close this case. She was last seen in the 1900 block of Massachusetts Avenue, SE in Washington. On February 26, 2014 she was seen with Mr. Tatum at the Holiday Inn Express on Bladensburg Avenue near New York Avenue in Northeast. A few days later, Tatum was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound in Kenilworth Park.

The last search for Rudd took place in December 2015 when dozens of members of law enforcement and police dogs scoured a construction site in Northeast Washington. Police found Andrea Denise Tatum, the janitor’s wife, dead in a Maryland motel just a day after the missing persons report was filed for Rudd.
