DDCA row: Jaitley files defamation suit against Kejriwal, 5 others

Kejriwal, who routed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in state elections this year, accused Jaitley last week of allowing fraud at a cricket association he ran from 2003 to 2013. “Let him make any specific charge, I will answer it right now”, the finance minister said. The DDCA has admitted that there were irregularities, but has absolved Jaitley of any involvement.

Arun Jaitley made a statement in Lok Sabha denying all allegation against him.

Delhi Cabinet Monday approved setting up of one member commission of inquiry under former Solicitor General Gopal Subramanium to probe alleged irregularities in capital’s cricket body DDCA.

Azad on Sunday showed a video that claimed DDCA had given contracts to various companies with false addresses.

The Congress members raised slogans, demanding Jaitley’s resignation, displayed placards and trooped near the chairman’s podium.

Jaitley, on his part, said, “The charges (against me) are baseless and wrong”. Contrary to that, the Congress built the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium spending Rs 900 crores.

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Monday filed both civil and criminal defamation suits against Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and five other Aam Aadmi Party members in Delhi.

Kejriwal and the five AAP leaders have publicly been making allegations against Jaitley with regard to the DDCA affairs although some of the allegations have gone beyond that.

Giving a detailed account of the expenditure, he said Delhi did not have a stadium and DDCA proposed two measures to raise money as the Board of Control for Crikcet in India’s (BCCI) infrastructure subsidy was limited to only Rs 4 cr.

DDCA treasurer Ravindra Manchanda said, “After Arun Jaitley left, the president of DDCA sent Rs. 155 crore without any authorisation…”

Kirti Azad told the house the Congress should stop disrupting proceedings, and instead “demand a time-bound SIT-monitored probe” into the DDCA row.
