DDCA row: Jaitley will come out clean, says Modi
India’s Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has sued Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for defamation after a bitter row over corruption allegations.

Jaitley had sought Rs 10 crore in damages, claiming that the statements made by the AAP leaders have caused “irreversible damage” to his reputation.
“The party is solidly behind him”, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister M Venkaiah Naidu said, extending support to him, who is under attack from the Opposition over the charges.
The prime minister said the Congress was not able to digest its electoral defeats since the 2014 Lok Sabha polls and was raking up manufactured allegations to defame his government. In a special Session of the Assembly, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal demanded resignation of the Prime Minister for what he described as shielding Jaitley.
“Has the federal government requested the CBI to do an inquiry into it?”
Leader of Opposition in the Assembly Vijender Gupta said the protest was a mark of “anger” of the people against the AAP government’s “unconstitutional” ways and use of the House for “political vendetta” instead of deliberating issues of development and public interest.
Noting that Advani had resigned after the Hawala scam, Yechury said that Jaitley should understand that the Prime Minister has suddenly remembered the veteran leader when the Finance Minister was facing a problem.
“Yesterday Kirti Azad was talking about CBI inquiry in DDCA and no BJP member said it was wrong”, the Congress leader said, asking if a Central Bureau of Investigation inquiry had been ordered into allegations of corruption and what stage it was in.
However, Modi gave no hint that action would be taken against BJP MP Kirti Azad, the original accuser whose charges have been picked up by the Opposition to demand Jaitley’s sacking. “What is the message the government was sending by allotting a bungalow to (complainant) Subramanian Swamy on the eve of the Gandhi family’s court appearance?” a key strategist said.
The Delhi Chief Minister termed the CBI raid at his office as “dangerous” for the country’s federal structure. The party raised the issue in the Lok Sabha too before walking out, expressing dissatisfaction at Jaitley’s reply.

Azad said the probe into the DDCA by the Serious Fraud Investigation Office (SFIO), done under the previous Congress-led UPA regime, was of a civil nature.
