The black-tie event, known for its humor, often at the expense of the politicians that attend, raises money for various charities. Mayor Bill de Blasio and Sutton issued a four-sentence statement November 4 supporting the plan: “We share the council’s goal of helping our veterans and their families access the services and support they need and deserve in their return to civilian life”.

The progressive group founded by Mayor Bill de Blasio to inject the income inequality issue into the presidential debate canceled a planned forum in Iowa on the topic, one of the group’s major initiatives. “Like Cain and Abel, Hamilton and Burr, Katy Perry and Taylor Swift”.

Almost two years after his inauguration morphed into a public bashing of a stone-faced Michael Bloomberg, the former mayor had the last laugh at the Al Smith Dinner, where he poked fun at everything from Hizzoner’s penchant for the national spotlight to his feud with the governor.

Bloomberg also made a joke about de Blasio’s recent travels outside the city to support a few of his fellow Democrats in other states, saying; ‘It’s great to see Mayor de Blasio actually in NY City tonight.

Sanders was described by Bloomberg as ‘a Jewish socialist who looks like Christopher Lloyd in Back to the Future and sounds like Larry David’. He insisted that such a broad approach was vital to securing federal funding for progressive programs in NY City, and asserted that only taxation upon the wealthy could reap the necessary monies. She reiterated the administration’s pledge to end veteran homelessness in the city by the end of the year.

Organizers said at the start of the night the event had already raised more than $2.6 million for organizations serving needy children.
