According to Daily Star, Chelsea have turned their attention for Inter Milan captain Mauro Icardi, as Everton’s stubborn negotiating manners don’t seem to boost the chances of re-signing Romelu Lukaku this summer.

The former Netherlands worldwide signed a three-year deal at San Siro on Tuesday to succeed Roberto Mancini, after a succession of heavy pre-season defeats preceded the Italian’s exit, with De Boer confirming that Inter approached him after the events of last Friday’s 6-1 defeat to Tottenham.

‘I thank Inter for choosing me, ‘ De Boer is reported as saying by FourFourTwo.

‘We will keep the players who we do not want to sell, ‘ he said. “We can work very well together, there won’t be any problems”.

‘Juventus are not unbeatable, sometimes things change. Arsenal will need to substantially increase their offer if they want to secure him from the clutches of I Partenopei, who are still reeling from the loss of Gonzalo Higuain.

“We spoke to Inter two weeks ago simply to understand whether there might be any common ground”.

But De Boer is adamant Icardi will stay put and be leading the line in the San Siro next season.

“Everything happened quickly. I was honoured by their interest”.
