De Gea: I’m stronger after Real Madrid farce

The Spanish goalkeeper was on the verge of leaving the club on transfer deadline day, but the deal collapsed after Real Madrid failed to file the paperwork in time with the Spanish authorities.

De Gea was all set for a Madrid homecoming, with Keylor Navas to move in the opposite direction, but the transfer papers were not lodged in time as the Spanish window shut last month.

He said: “I am a guy who likes to let the bad things and difficult times behind”.

After not featuring for the club throughout the transfer saga, De Gea has returned and been in fine form for the Red Devils in goal, helping them to third in the Premier League.

“There’s a lot I enjoyed in my career and it’s very difficult to choose one moment, but when I walked into the locker room and saw Raul, Zinedine Zidane, Ronaldo, Luis Figo and Roberto Carlos, it was a special moment”.

“I must move forward, continuing to work as strong as ever”, De Gea told Canal Plus.

His future remains in doubt, with suggestions his new contract includes a release clause.

“It is a learning process that football gives you, tough moments that make you mature and grow”.

De Gea has reestablished his position as the first choice goalkeeper in Louis van Gaal’s team and has edged new signing Sergio Romero to the fringes. “You have to keep working and try to improve in every training session”.
